Gold Coast City Council
Mermaid Waters, QLD
Tendered
$6m +

This extension and refurbishment project was to the existing Broadbeach Branch Library. Construction of the new facility was built over the existing library, therefore allowing it to remain fully operational for as long as possible.

The facility is one of the Gold Coast Council’s most environmentally compliant buildings, incorporating ecologically sustainable design principles to reduce the consumption of water, electricity and air conditioning.  The natural hues of the building have been designed to reflect the natural environment of the Gold Coast area, while the striking bright wall displays at either end of the building are reminiscent of the city’s history.  The colourful feature walls give the building an iconic presence in the building as they stand out in the landscape. The building had its official opening in August 2008 and the entire project team are extremely proud of this job.
