Southern Cross Care
Broken Hill, NSW
Managing Contractor
$11m +

Badge worked closely with architect Brown Falconer to realise the architectural themes in this construction project for repeat client, Southern Cross Care.  The extension to an operational aged care facility included accommodation for 40 patients, activity and dining rooms, a hairdresser, lounge room and dental facilities.  A unique element to this project was the construction of a ‘men’s shed’.  The ‘shed’ was designed to give the male clients a homely feel and a place for them to spend their days socialising with other clients at the facility.

Under the Managing Contract delivery method, Badge were required to report to both the architect and the Board of Directors at Southern Cross Care.  This allowed a true collaborative relationship to form between all parties.  This type of relationship allows construction and design issue to be rectified quickly and therefore minimise any impact on project programme or budget.

With the construction taking place in a busy regional centre in NSW, it was important both for Badge and the client to utilise subcontractors in the local area where possible in order to effectively contribute to the local economy.  The project was completed to a high standard by these local subcontractors with the inclusion of some Adelaide-based trades where there were holes in the trade availability in Broken Hill.
